The first 24–48 hours
Right after microneedling, skin is red, warm, and sensitive — similar to a mild sunburn — and may feel tight. This usually calms noticeably within 24 to 48 hours.
Some pinpoint bleeding or light flaking over the next days is normal as the skin repairs.
What to avoid
For the first 24–72 hours avoid makeup, active ingredients (retinol, acids, vitamin C), and direct sun. Don't touch the face with unwashed hands or use harsh cleansers.
Skip sweating, exercise, saunas, steam, and swimming for 24–48 hours — heat and bacteria are the enemies of fresh micro-channels.
What to do
Cleanse gently, keep the skin hydrated with a recommended serum or moisturizer, and apply broad-spectrum SPF once you're past the first 24 hours and your clinician approves.
Drink water and let the skin recover — results build over the following weeks as collagen responds.
Normal vs warning signs
Normal: redness, warmth, tightness, mild swelling, and light flaking that improve each day.
Warning signs: increasing swelling, pus, spreading redness, or fever — possible infection that needs the clinic's attention promptly.
For clinics: deliver it in writing
Patients forget verbal instructions quickly. A branded microneedling aftercare sheet they can re-read reduces calls and avoidable complications.
Be specific about timeframes, list the warning signs, and include how to reach you — generated per procedure for consistency.
